Novaya Opera performing "Prince Igor" by Alexander Borodin

1 - 5 April 2014 - London Coliseum. A rare opportunity to see Borodin’s only opera Prince Igor comes in April 2014, when Moscow based Novaya Opera makes its first visit to the UK bringing this spectacular Russian work to the stage of the London Coliseum. It is a wonderful chance to see the famous Polovtsian Dances performed live as part of the complete opera. The production is part of the UK-Russia Year of Culture and Novaya Opera is the only Russian opera company coming to London as part of the celebrations.

The Russian Ballet Icons Gala: “The Story of Russian Ballet” - 9 March

9 March 2014, Sunday

London Coliseum

The special retrospective evening featuring famous excerpts from the classical repertoires of the greatest figures from Russian Ballet’s history and masterpieces by leading contemporary choreographers, will be performed by Russian and international star dancers from the Bolshoi, Mariinsky, Royal Ballet, English National Ballet; including ballets from the Grand Opera Paris, Berlin Staatsoper  and New York City Ballet. The project will include round-table discussion on the history of the Russian ballet and master classes by the leading Russian ballet pedagogues.

MASLENITSA Performances on Trafalgar Square on 2 March

Opening Ceremony

The Festival traditionally opens with performances by students from Russian-teaching schools in the UK and by winners of the All-Britain “Stars of Albion” Competition for vocalists and instrumentalists. There will be a traditional Maslenitsa ceremony presenting the mascot of Maslenitsa - the Kostroma Doll - and featuring special Maslenitsa songs and dances.
