Asian Flavours at Gilgamesh

The star-studded Gilgamesh has long been a favourite amongst the international jet set, set against the historical backdrop of the Camden Stables Market, Gilgamesh offers a restaurant, lounge bar and nightclub all under one roof.

Contemporary in style, the interior is modern and the walls are adorned with ancient sculptures and panels throughout. Opulent throne-like seating and tones of gold and reds reflect on Asian culture and the design of Gilgamesh is centred around the idea of taking guests on a journey through the Orient.

Specialising in Asian cuisine, it's no surprise that Gilgamesh has so many accolades and awards under its belt. Headed by Dean Light, formerly of The Dorchester, the menu takes inspiration from the flavours of Japan, China, Malaysia and Thai giving an authentic taste of Far East Asia.

The menu is devised into small plates, sushi and larger plates with a sharing concept in mind. To start, classic dishes include an offering of crispy squid and Thai fishcakes. I normally order the monkfish Caprese, delicately done, it comes served with an Asian dressing which really hits the spot. It's also well worth trying some of the tempura and dim sum, the soft shell crab and black tiger prawn tempura are both house favourites.

For the larger dishes, the Malaysian seafood jungle curry is popular and the black cod is by far the best in town. The BBQ Lamb cutlets and teriyaki beef fillet are also nicely done and the meat melts in the mouth. A healthy choice of sides also complement the food well and the fried rice is also tasty as a lighter meal by itself.

Gilgamesh also boasts its own nightclub, and its signature night Pandora's Box at weekends plays a mix of commercial house and all-time hits attracting both tourists and locals from the Camden scene.

Open daily, Gilgamesh opens for lunch Monday – Thursday 12pm to 3pm and Friday to Sunday 12pm to 5pm, for dinner, the restaurant opens 5.30pm to 10pm Sunday to Thursday with a later opening until 11pm on Fridays and Saturdays.
