Crab Tavern sits proudly against the stunning backdrop of the Broadgate Circle development within the heart of London’s city. As the name suggests, the all day restaurant serves up all things crab, if it can be done, they do it here, think crab on waffle or crab hash browns and you soon get the point.

The brainchild of Russian restaurateur Igor Krayushkin, Crab Tavern is the latest addition to his portfolio of hotspots in Russia, Dubai and now London. Open for breakfast right through to dinner, the concept is new and brings a much welcomed alternative to the now done idea of eateries specialising only in Lobster.

Expect wooden flooring and panels combined with high booth tables and counters in the extensive space which runs over two floors. The main restaurant is on the ground floor with a further outdoor terrace (for those rare occasions when the sun shines on the square mile) and a bar. A slight New York vibe gives the setting a sleek and somewhat inviting atmosphere to the buzzing restaurant.

The menu showcases its hero Crab dishes alongside a more classic menu of steaks, sandwiches and salads. A daily catch of the day is also an option for those seafood lovers that haven’t yet jumped on the crab band wagon.

I’d suggest trying one of the sharing appetisers to start, it’s good way to introduce newbies to the crab craze, the crab sharing platter for example, has a nice selection of soft shell crab, crab tartare, sticky ribs and pepper squid, sometimes I have it as a light lunch too.

For mains, the highlight of the menu is predictably ‘Crabs Galore’ but rest assured, the food doesn’t disappoint, a creative take on such a fabulous delicacy, one can expect the likes of a crab burger or Goan crab and cod curry. If you plan to dine with a friend, go for the west Coast bucket boil, a feast of crab, mussels, lobster, sausages and potatoes all in one, just make sure to go hungry to get through it.

There are other tempting choices on the menu such as the desserts, including a mouth-wateringly good chocolate brownie and the extensive cocktail and wine list – yes they do a crab cocktail too.

Crab Tavern has also introduced a series of crab-cracking masterclasses, just in time for the Christmas Party season, available for corporate bookings, guests receive a cocktail on arrival, a rather messy yet enjoyable crab cracking experience and a set menu of house dishes and wine for dinner after the class.

Open Daily, Crab Tavern opens Monday to Wednesday 7am-11.30pm, Thursday to Friday 7am to 1am and at weekends from 10am to 11.30pm.
