High End Mexican Dining at Peyote

Peyote is a unique dining concept offering contemporary Mexican cuisine with an element of fine dining. Located in prime Mayfair, the restaurant and bar are named after a cactus found over in the Chihuahuan desert and is the brainchild of celebrity restaurateur Tarun Mahrotri.

The first of its kind, Peyote has already established itself on London’s dining scene since it’s opening in 2013 and brings a refined take on the flavours of Mexico. Chic stylings and textured walls give a cosmopolitan ambience to the restaurant and lounge. The interior is an eclectic splash of colour and design aspects such as beaded skulls along the staircase add to the trendy vibe of Peyote.

Situated on two floors, the spacious venue features a lounge bar on the ground floor, restaurant seating up to 120 and a taco counter for a prime view of the chefs at work. For private dining, the chefs table situated in its own room seats up to 10 for an intimate affair.

Renowned chef Eduardo Garcia created Peyote's menu and champions the finest in Mexican cuisine. Garcia has reimagined traditional sharing plates such as tacos and ceviches by using the finest ingredients and a unique palette of tastes. I’d recommend the calamars and the Tinga de Pollo tacos. The homemade salsas are also a highlight of the menu, each blended in-house using a bespoke set of spices, they give a punch to the meal adding a dimension of flavour.

Avant-garde dishes feature alongside the more known classics and favourites include the rib eye borracha and grilled cactus salad. I’d typically suggest ordering one or two tacos per person and some ceviche as a starting course, the quesadillas are also great as a sharing second course and the are just delicious.

Open daily for lunch Monday to Friday, Peyote offers a 3-course set menu for lunch priced at £24. Resident DJ’s also play in the bar during weekend evenings making it a great hotspot for post dinner cocktails too. Peyote is open for dinner Monday-Thursday 6pm – 1am with a later opening until 2am on Fridays and Saturdays, the restaurant is closed on Sundays.
