Indian Fine Dining at Lotus London

Lotus is an Indian restaurant with a unique fine dining concept in the heart of London’s West End which opened in July of last year. A stone’s throw away from the buzzing area of Covent Garden and the theatres, Lotus brings an authentic slice of vibrant India through its innovative cuisine and selection of cocktails.

The seasonally changing menu has been curated by chef patron and restaurant manager, Bhakar Banerjee. Bringing a wealth of experience to Lotus, Bhakar has worked at the likes of the Le Meridian and The Taj hotel groups over the past twenty years. Using spices imported from India and locally sourced meat, he has created a menu inspired by the different regions of the country combining traditional Indian cooking techniques with new and creative flavours.

A varied menu of game, meat and fish is split into four courses which includes starter, a kebab course, main and dessert. I’d recommend the rabbit kheema to start, the rabbit is served in the same style as the traditional lamb kheema recipe but offers a different texture and the flavour of the rabbit is well complimented by the spices and missi roti it comes served with. Signature mains include lamb shanks in a Khorma sauce topped with a 23 karat gold leaf and I normally order the soft shell crab which comes with Indian styled house fries.

The menu also comes with a wine pairing option selected by Head Sommelier Debbie Henriques. Lotus has an extensive list of wines and is one of the only fine dining Indian restaurants in London to serve Lassi. A selection of old favourites are featured on the dessert menu, think gulab jamun and rasmalai to finish a perfect meal.

Lotus is open Monday to Sunday for lunch 12pm to 2.30pm and for dinner 5pm – 10.30pm. they also offer a theatre menu pre and post theatre from 5pm to 6pm and 9.30pm to 10.30pm. The restaurant also operates a smart casual dress code.
