Ristorante Frescobaldi Toscana by the Sea Winemakers Dinner

Short of taking a little sojourn to Florentine, what better way to introduce fine Tuscan wine to your cellar or palate than to attend Ristorante Frescobaldi’s ‘Winemaker’s Dinner’. The restaurant, located between London’s Regent Street and Savile Row, is owned by the Frescobaldi family, the Florentine wine dynasty that have been producing the finest Tuscan wine since 1308 and while methods may have changed with the times, the ethos behind the company hasn’t.

Ristorante Frescobaldi1We are told that their wines have graced such tables as King Henry VIII’s and the artist Michelangelo, who apparently was quite happy to trade his works of art for theirs.

23rd February 2016 saw the restaurant host their latest winemaker’s event, showcasing their Ammiraglia estate. The Ammiraglia estate is located in Magliano, centered in the Maremma region of Tuscany, an area with excellent conditions suited to the grape; high levels of sunlight and a marine breeze create a unique richness and aroma that is only to be found in the grapes from Maremma.

Head Chef Roberto Reatini delivered a bespoke four-course menu that was designed to perfectly complement the chosen wines; Alie Rose, Massovivo Vermentino, Terremore Cabernet, Pietraregia Morellino Riserva, three vintages of the Crus Ammiraglia – 2006, 2007 and 2011 and Quaranta Altari 2007, Vinsanto del Chianti.

All the wines were expertly presented by stand-in sommelier Giuseppe A. Pariani, a Frescobaldi company employee with over twenty years in the business.

Fine food and fine wine were accompanied by an incredible restaurant; space inside doesn’t play second fiddle to covers, the Frescobaldi management know that comfort is an important part of the dining experience and as such, you aren’t rubbing elbows with other diners and that means numbers are generally quite low, which we are sure most would agree, makes for a better dining experience.

Ristorante FrescobaldiThe building itself has some stunning features – a large central wine display area, tiled murals on the walls and high ceilings make a welcome break from the usual London atmosphere and style; light and airy with a hint of Florentine chic.

All of the guests on that night were entered into a draw to win a luxury prize of an overnight break at the Ammaraglia estate including lunch and a tour of the vineyard; what better way of rounding the night off than being invited to walk the path of Kings and world-renowned artists as you follow in their footsteps through the vineyards and perhaps bring back a taste (or two) of Tuscany.

The next Winemaker’s Dinner event will be held on Tuesday 14th June 2016 at Ristorante Frescobaldi and will showcase the Attems Estate. To ensure that you’re there, contact the restaurant directly to put your name on the list for this exclusive event, as with all good things in life, availability is limited!
